JGNDPSOU organizes a webinar on “Achieving Excellence in Higher Education”

School of Business Management and Commerce of Jagat Guru Nanak Dev Punjab State Open University, Patiala, the newly established State Open University of Punjab, organised a webinar on “Achieving Excellence in Higher Education” under the guidance of the visionary Vice-Chancellor Prof. Karamjeet Singh.

Underscoring the importance of achieving excellence in tertiary education, Prof. Karamjeet Singh said that higher education institutions contribute immensely to the professional and personal lives of the students and enrich the intellectual, economic and cultural fabric of a country. He further added that excellence in higher education determines not only the future prospects of a candidate but the destiny of a nation also. It opens up new vistas of opportunity for the students to be entrepreneurs and helps them integrate into the larger national and global workforce.

Prof. Bhimraya Metri, Director IIM, Nagpur, dwelled in detail on the dimensions of higher education. Underpinning the importance of harnessing the optimum use of technology coupled with imparting ethical values among the learners, he said that the culture of excellence in any university has to be built on four pillars of knowledge, skills, value system and growth mind set.

Dr. Deepak.K. Srivastva, Professor IIM, Tiruchirappali shared his views on emerging trends and challenges and gave insight into the strategic perspective to achieving excellence. He further added that the institutes can leverage global talent pool to impart need-based higher education that makes more and more people educated with a progressive, rational, analytical, and skillful mind.

Dr.Dinesh. K. Gupta, P.L.Tandon Professor of Strategic Management, University Business School, Panjab University, Chandigarh with the rich experience of four decades, deliberated in detail on the challenges the current education system is grappling with. Quoting generously from the traditional wisdom, he reinforced the idea to draw inspiration from our roots He brought startling facts to the fore to underscore the changes that Indian education system needs. Our education is useless if it does not help us to deal with the real life problems and come out of them triumphantly.

The event concluded with the informal discussion and observations by the galaxy of academicians in the form of participants like Dr. K.N. Pathak and Prof. Juar, Former Vice Chancellors and the experts.
