Job oriented courses be introduced in the curricula-Prof. Kamaljit

Amritsar-A One Month-Induction Training Programme for Newly Recruited Faculty concluded at the UGC- Human Resource Development Centre of Guru Nanak Dev University. This maiden Programme was conducted under the aegis of Faculty Development Centre, which has been established in the university under the PMMMNMTT (Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya National Mission on Teachers and Teaching). As many as 30 newly recruited faculty members from Punjab and its neighboring states participated in it.

Prof. Kamaljit Singh, Dean Academic Affairs, presided over the valedictory session. He in his valedictory address appraised the participants about the burning issues being confronted by the higher education in the country. Expressing his deep concern over its current plight in the country, he emphasized to accord topmost priority to this issue and to find suitable ways to bring about requisite changes in our curricula, pedagogical skills etc. as well as to introduce job oriented courses instead of the traditional ones. Despite the exponential growth of institutes of higher education in the country over the last few decades or so, we are lagging far behind at the global level, he woed. The number of unemployable graduates being churned out by the institutes of higher education in the country must be a cause of major concern for all of the stakeholders, he warned. The teachers, being one of the primary stakeholders, need to get their act together and put in their mite in this endeavour of paramount national significance, he concluded.
