Kala Kumbh – 7 day workshop under Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsva starts at Chitkara University

Around 250 painting artists representing various forms of the art have started painting a huge Scroll / canvas of around 500 metres of length and 3 metres of height which will be displayed at Raj Path, New Delhi during Republic Day celebration on 26 January 2022 and it will be inaugurated by PM Narendra Modi. This workshop is organised under 75th Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav by Ministry of Culture, Ministry of Defence and NGMA ( National Gallery of Modern Art ) New Delhi.
While inaugurating the Kala Kumbh, Adwaita Garanayak , Director General , NGMA said that this workshop is not only giving opportunity to the artists to meet each other and get inspired but also the paintings will showcase the stories of unsung heroes of India who have fought for freedom movement of country.
The artists have not only researched about the unknown freedom fighters but also contribution of many regional and local heroes of that time will be highlighted in paintings and by this way it will be documented in visual forms too. He said that such huge scroll painting will be one of it’s kind which will be exhibited first in nation’s capital and later will be taken to various parts of India so that all the citizen may see these art work pertaining to country’s pride and historical tradition.
Harshwardhan Sharma, Chairperson Advisory Committee, NGMA welcomed the artists who have come from different States of India and are known for their work and creativity and said that positive and creative people have assembled here for a great cause and will surely create a work which will astonish all the viewers once it is displayed in final shape . He said that all the artists’ aim is to depict about the unsung heroes of nation who sacrificed their life for freedom through huge scroll painting.
The performing artists of NZCC ( North Zone Cultural Centre ) Patiala presented various dance performances of Punjab including Bhangra and Giddha .
Dr Ranjan Mallik , Dean , Chitkara School of Design who is also one of the 10 Mentors for paining artists and host of workshop hoped that the workshop will be successful in creation of beautiful and meaningful huge art work.
Kala Kumbh – 7 day workshop under Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsva starts at Chitkara University .Regional Outreach Bureau Chandigarh has put up a photo exhibition in which the life and journey of freedom fighters of nation is showcased and is part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav celebration. The cultural troups of various States will be performing during workshop days and the painting artists will be working entire day at two locations to give final shape to the Scroll Painting of around half kilometre.
