Giving a glimpse of Punjab’s unique, colourful and extravagant culture, the flagship first-ever Punjab Tourism Summit has immersed the people from across the globe into traditional values and rich culture of Punjab at Amity University Mohali on Monday.

Punjab government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann has set up a special exhibition centre here that has enriched people with warm hospitable and heartwarming vibes. The stalls here exhibited women, wearing traditional Salwar kameez, were embroidering tradition clothes, while men in tradition kurta Pajama were seen dancing on the tunes of Dhol. This Summit displayed Punjab’s traditional values, Punjabi songs, Trinjan (Punjabi tradition of women gathering, spinning charkhas, and singing songs), Pind Di Satth (Traditionally held under a tree located at central point in the village), Teej and Peengh (Girls swing on decorated swings) besides rich history and valour of Punjabis.

It also showcased the diverse flavour of dance styles including bhangra, Giddha, Kikli and Sammi and others. The visitors were also made aware of Punjabi literature including the pious writing from Sikh Gurus and poetry. Information about historical and tourists places of the state were also given at the exhibition. Pertinently, milestones were also set up across the venue to depict the importance of all 23 districts of the state.

Mohinder Kaur, a 62-year-old participant expressed her gratitude to the state government for taking this unique initiative and said, “After watching women grinding wheat in the tradition way by ‘Aata Chakki’, I have recalled nostalgic memories of my childhood when my grandmother used to do it manually in our native village.”

Another visitor, Surinder Pal Singh said that the Punjab Tourism Summit by the government has not left any stone unturned to enrich people with the rich culture of the state. This event will connect and make familiar the new generation with the Punjab’s diverse culture and brotherhood.

The Tourism and Cultural Affairs Minister Anmol Gagan Mann said that the state government under the leadership of CM Bhagwant Singh Mann is committed to transform the Punjab into a tourism hub and bring back its lost glory. She said that this tourism summit was an initiative taken by the government to promote tourism as well as to make people aware of the rich and heritage culture of Punjab.
