Krishi  Vigyan Kendra organises Kisan Mela

Krishi Vigyan Kendra(KVK) ,Rupnagar organised Kisan mela on ‘Kisan Bhagidari Prathmikta Hamari’ campaign under ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsva’ .The event was conducted under the aegis of Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana and ICAR Atari  Zone-1, Ludhiana.

Dr. G.S. Makkar, Deputy Director, KVK Ropar, while sharing the details informed that Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare is organising ‘Kisan Bhagidari, Prathmikta Hamri ‘ campaign in association with various other ministries and departments of government  of India to highlight the milestones achieved in agriculture and to highlight achievements under various flagship programmes/ farmers welfare schemes of government of  India.

He added that more than 300 farmers, farm women, entrepreneurs/ KVK ex-trainees, entrepreneurs, representatives of FPOs participated in this grand event. Dr. Makkar also apprised that this mela aimed at sharing experiences, gaining knowledge and giving mass appeal to awareness about prospects of biofortified crops, millets and oilseeds.

Dr. Manjeet Singh, Chief Agriculture Officer, Rupnagar and the Chief Guest of the event, while addressing the farmers shed light on the scope of natural farming in Ropar besides elaborating on various farmers centric welfare schemes of the department.

Dr. Aparna, Assistant Professor (Livestock production) informed that a gala exhibition of stalls was also arranged during this event by the department of Soil and water conservation, Horticulture, Dairy Development, Fisheries, Forestry and wild life preservation, RSETI-UCO bank, FPOs, entrepreneurs and nationalized banks depicting different schemes, technologies and products.

Dr. Sanjeev Ahuja, Assistant Professor (Horticulture) informed that during this event seed of improved PAU varieties and literature on agriculture was also provided to the farmers.

Dr. R.S. Ghuman shared the information on prospects of millets, oilseeds and bio-fortified crops.

Dr. Princy shared the information on nutritional importance of millets and bio-fortified foods in our diet.

Dr. Pawan Kumar, Asstt. Prof. (Pl. Protec.) said the farmers enthusiastically attended the live telecast from Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare in virtual mode and also actively participated in farmers-scientist interaction on “‘Bhartiya Prakritik Krishi Paddhati’ and technical discussion on millets, oilseeds and bio-fortified crops.

The event ended with a vote of thanks from Dr. Ankurdeep Preety, Asstt. Prof. (Agroforestry).
