For the first time in the history of Patiala, Shiromani Akali Dal has fielded a Hindu candidate NK Sharma from this parliamentary constituency.

NK Sharma is born on 7 April 1970 at Lohgarh village, in the house of Vishwanath Sharma and Raksha Sharma. He has achieved great heights in his short period of political life on the bases of his strength, struggle and hardwork.

Narinder Kumar Sharma alias NK Sharma had his primary education from the Government High School near by the village of Bhabat. His gotra is Bharadwaj Brahmin. After that he got his B.Sc degree from DAV College Chandigarh and M.Sc degree from Shimla University.

After attaining high qualification, he started social service with honesty and determination from his young life. He took his business to the heights; he also won the honor of becoming the youngest sarpanch by winning with a record margin of one thousand votes during the panchayat elections of Lohgarh village.

After becoming Sarpanch, Narinder Sharma took his first step into politics and became the President of the Sarpanch Union. Meanwhile, seven villages of Zirakpur, including Lohgarh, were merged to form a Nagar Panchayat by the Punjab government. In which Narinder Sharma was nominated as a member. The Congress government was formed in the state and council elections were held in the entire state.

Under the leadership of Narinder Sharma, the Zirakpur council elections were fought under the banner of Shiromani Akali Dal.

During this election, contrary to the results of the entire state, Narinder Sharma team won 13 wards out of 15 wards.  NK Sharma got the honor of becoming the first President of Zirakpur Nagar Panchayat on April 4, 2003. During this tenure, he won the hearts of the people of Zirakpur by doing development and on the strength of his hard work, he got the status of Municipal Council to Zirakpur Nagar Panchayat.

While, the sudden death of late Captain Kanwaljit Singh changed the political situation and his son Jasjit Singh Banni’s announcement of separation from the party changed the political scenario. He was made in-charge of Banur Vidhan Sabha constituency on the instructions of Akali Dal leader convener Late Prakash Singh Badal and party president Sukhbir Singh Badal, who are known as close friends of Narinder Sharma. During the subsequent assembly elections, the party, who emerged as a candidate for the assembly from Banur constituency, decided to give this ticket to Jasjit Singh Banni, the son of Captain Kanwaljit Singh, who rejoined the party. Even in adverse circumstances, NK Sharma showed loyalty to the leadership of the party during the elections. Narinder Sharma strongly supported the Akali-BJP candidate Jasjit Singh Banni and played an important role in winning him with a huge margin.

Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal named him the Chairman of District Planning Board Mohali, emphasizing Narinder Sharma’s hard work and dedication to the party.

Seeing the loyalty to the party and the spirit of service to the people, the Shiromani Akali Dal announced NK Sharma as its candidate from the Derabassi constituency during the assembly elections held in the year 2012. Sharma defeated Deepinder Singh Dhillon of Congress by a margin of more than 12 thousand votes.

After this, NK Sharma was given the responsibility as Parliamentary Secretary (Industries and Commerce Department) in the Akali-BJP government formed under the leadership of late  Prakash Singh Badal. After this, NK Sharma defeated Deepinder Singh Dhillon of Congress for the second consecutive time in the Vidhan Sabha elections held during the year 2017. There were many ups and downs in the politics of Punjab, but NK Sharma never switched sides and his allegiance to the Akali Dal.

Looking at the services to the party, Shiromani Akali Dal has announced the candidate from the Patiala Lok Sabha constituency and has given the term of service. 

VISON AND MISSION AS MP

NK Sharma said “permanent solution of Ghaggar river is my foremost work after electing as member parliament from Patiala. The incumbent member parliament has done nothing even after remaining 20 years of member parliament including five years of union state minister. “

Sharma added that “I’ll develop, bring industries in the areas of Ghanour, Rajpura as these are the best suitable locations for any industrial house. Patiala has a potential for industrial growth. The industries will generate more jobs for local residents.”

Sharma said “ during my tenure as chairman, district planning board, Mohali lots of development work- airport road, aerocity project, stadiums in every phase, swimming pools etc were made. People have given me a title of ‘Man of Development.’ I have a special vision for the development of royal city of Patiala -both infrastructure development and economic development .”

CONTROVERSY

NK Sharma was accused of concealing the facts about a case registered against him in 2003, while filing his nomination for 2012 elections from Dera Bassi. But his papers were accepted by the returning officer and he won the elections.

NK Sharma was also accused of committing a fraud by submitting a false affidavit for seeking environment clearance for his project when SAD-BJP government was in power and Sharma was Chief parliamentary secretary. He was accused of starting construction without getting the mandatory environment clearance.
