Labourers trapped after Lintel collapsed in Rupnagar, one rescued

At least five labourers were trapped after a lintel of a two-storey house suddenly collapsed in local Preet Colony today afternoon. One trapped labourer was rescued in the evening and was referred to PGI Chandigarh.
At the time of the incident, the labourer were working on jacking up the lintel when suddenly there was a loud explosion and the entire house fell down. The trapped labourers have been identified as Ramesh Foreman, Kaka, Sahil, Abhishek, Nizamin all residents of village Kalsi in Haryana.
On getting the information about the incident deputy commissioner Preeti Yadav, senior superintendent of police Gulneet Khurana reached the spot to supervise the rescue operations.
Jawans of Punjab police,ITBP and teams of NDRF, SDRF and fire brigade were called for rescue work.
Till the time of the filling of this report the rescue work to save the workers was going on.
House owner Rajinder Kaur told that they had built this house in 1984. She said that after building a new house, they started living in it and were getting the work of lifting the lintel to get the old house repaired. She said that she was in her house and suddenly there was a loud bang and there was darkness.
Deputy Commissioner Preeti Yadav said that the first priority of the administration was to safely rescue all the trapped labourers. She said that one trapped labourer was rescued around 7 pm.
She said that an enquiry would be conducted in to the incident.
