Love of nature is most important for life; GNDU VC inaugurated Bhai Vir Singh Flower Festival

Bhai Vir Singh Flower and Plants Festival was formally inaugurated here today near the Sri Guru Granth Sahib Bhawan of the Guru Nanak Dev University. Various types of flowers and plants were displayed by the entries received from affiliated colleges, schools and individuals. This festival is being hosted by the Landscape Department and Botanical & Environmental Department of the University. The objective of this festival is to attract youth and society towards nature.
This exhibition-cum-competition was formally inaugurated by Prof.Jaspal Singh Sandhu, Vice Chancellor. On this occasion, Prof. Hardip Singh, Dean Academic Affairs and Prof. Anish Dua, Dean Student’s Welfare and other staff members were present.
Prof. Sandhu appreciated the efforts of the host departments for organising a splendid flower festival every year which was reflective of its engagement to give a greener and beautiful environment to the campus. He said that love of flowers and greenery is the essence of life. He emphasised the need to continue organising lively and creative activities like flower shows in the campus for promoting positive and healthy trends in society. He said the University is committed to promotion of greenery and plantation in the area to provide an aesthetically vibrant living environment to its students and residents.
Dr. Jaswinder Singh Bilga, Consultant Horticulture said that through the poetry, Bhai Vir Singh urges human beings to be united with nature. Bhai Vir Singh was very much concerned with the environment. Bhai Vir Singh’s poetry depicts the natural world in a very respective manner. His poetry shows the intrinsic relationship between human and nature and his poetry also traces flora of the region.

Gurwinder Singh, Landscape Officer said that this festival is being organized with the inspiration of Vice- Chancellor Prof. Dr. Jaspal Singh Sandhu to associate students with nature and to promote floriculture and plantation in the society. He said that there is heavy rush of flower lovers and students to visit this mega event. He also told that the entries has been adjudged and prize distribution function shall be held tomorrow at 3.30 pm in Guru Granth Sahib Bhwan which will be presided over by Prof. Hardip Singh, Dean Academic Affairs of the University.
