Magazine released, Scholarships distributed at Modi College

M M Modi College, Patiala today organized a function to release its annual college magazine ‘The Luminary’ for 2016-17 sessions. Prof. (Dr.) S.P.S. Oberoi, Managing Trustee, Sarbat Da Bhala Charitable Trust, presided over the function. Madan Lal Hasija, Director, Education, Sarbat Da Bhala Cheritable Trust was Guest of Honour on the occasion. Dr. Prabhleen Singh, Administrative Officer, Punjabi University, Patiala and Gagandeep Singh, Special Correspondent, PTC News were special invitees. The programe was inaugurated with Saraswati Vandana and Shabad Gayan by the students.

Principal Dr. Khushvinder Kumar welcomed the chief guest and other guests and said S.P.S. Oberoi not only understood the true concept of ‘Sarbat Da Bhala’ philosophy of Baba Nanak and converted it into a way of living. Punjabi community should be especially thankful to him for the release of many youngsters from foreign prisons by paying ‘blood money’ in large amounts.

Dr. Ashwani Sharma, Editor, Science Section ‘The Luminary’ discussed the different themes and sub-themes of the magazine. Prof. (Dr.) Baljinder Kaur, Editor-in-Chief of the college magazine ‘The Luminary’ said that the objective of publication of this magazine is to motivate the students for creative writing and to equip them with literary skills in different streams.

Prof. Ved Parkash Sharma briefed about the activities and mission of the ‘Sarbat Da Bhala’ Charitable Trust. M. L. Hasija, Director, Education of ‘Sarbat Da Bhala’ Trust told that our trust is working with different governments and organizations to provide help to the deprived sections of the society.

Oberoi distributed amount of Seven Lac Ten Thousand Rupees as scholarships to 71 meritorious and needy students. He said that our trust is committed to the welfare of the humanity as a whole. Memento was presented to the chief guest.

A vote of thanks was presented by Prof. (Dr.) Baljinder Kaur, Vice Principal of the college. The stage was conducted by Dr. Gurdeep Singh, Editor, Punjabi Section of the college magazine. Prof. Neena Sareen (Editor, Commerce Section), Dr. Neeraj Goyal (Editor, News Section), Dr. Ajit Kumar (College Registrar), Dr. Harmohan Sharma (Editor, Computer Section), Dr. Rupinder Sharma (Editor, Hindi Section), Prof. Mohamad Habib, Prof. Veenu Jain, Prof. Kuldeep Kaur, Dr. Rupinder Singh, Prof. Honey Wadhawan, Ajay Kumar Gupta and Vinod Sharma were also present on the occasion.
