Maiden Independence-day celebrations at AIIMS Bathinda

The 74th Independence Day was celebrated with due respect at All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Bathinda. Dr. Prof. Dinesh Kumar Singh, the first executive director, chaired the 1st Independence Day celebrations of the academic Institution. The day’s program started with the hoisting of the national flag, followed by the national anthem. The Deputy Director, Colonel Devender Singh Rawat, gave a welcome address, where he briefed audience about the Institution’s past achievements and its future vision. This was followed by a series of cultural events organized by staff of the Institution.

Prof. Singh concluded the program with his speech, echoing the prime minister of India’s voice, about development of Indian health sector in these hard times for our country due to the pandemic. He also supported the prime minister’s ‘one nation-one health card’ scheme that will help in achieving the goal of universal health coverage. The executive director stressed upon the ‘National digital mission’ launched by Government of India and highlighted its importance.

He also motivated institutional workforce to contribute with their full potential in the war against COVID-19, with special mention of the supporting staff. He gave special mention to contributions and sacrifices made by the freedom fighters of Punjab, and heaped praised for their love and dedication towards our country. He asked the clinicians to identify the thrust areas of the Institution, with emphasis on cancer management.  The plantation drive was also initiated today, with a pledge to plant about 3000 trees in and around the campus.
