Majithia investigation venue changed by new SIT; Akalis keeping their fingers crossed

The newly formed three members special investigation team (SIT) under the chairmanship of DIG Patiala range Harcharan Singh Bhullar to investigate akali dal leader Bikram Singh Majithia in a drugs case has started its investigation at a new place, police lines, Patiala.
Earlier, the SIT under the headship of former IG and later ADGP Patiala zone Mukhwinder Singh Chinna had conducted the investigation of Bikram Singh Majithia at his office in baradari area. But this time, the new SIT chairman Harcharan Singh Bhullar has opted to investigate Majithia at a new place i.e at local police lines.
“With the change in venue, the akali dal workers are apprehending that the new SIT might arrest Bikram Singh Majithia in any case at police lines during or after the investigation. The police has apprehensions that if the Majithia is arrested from DIG’s office the akali dal workers may try to block his cavalcade or staged a dharna on roads leading to police station or the situation may turns ugly. Now, if he is arrested from police lines, he may be kept at the police lines itself and may present him before the court on tomorrow morning” said a worker on the condition of anonymity.
Another worker said ” the way Majithia has challenged the authority of Bhagwant Mann, he may be arrested by police in any case .”
Whereas an officer said “ the venue is changed by the new SIT chief, keeping in mind the blocking of roads leading to baradari. The commuters had to suffer a lot in the past as the roads leading to baradari are barricaded by police to control the situation. “
Earlier, Majithia reached police lines Patiala to join the investigation before the newly formed three member special investigation team (SIT). Before reaching the SIT office in Patiala, Majithia said he is a law-abiding citizen and has complete faith in the law.

The SAD leader accused the Aam Aadmi Party government of playing politics over the drugs issue and claimed that he was summoned by the SIT because he was speaking against chief minister Bhagwant Mann. He alleged that Mann was using the state machinery against him.
Majithia was booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act on December 20, 2021, during the Charanjit Singh Channi-led government’s tenure. The action was taken based on a 2018 report of the anti-drug Special Task Force. The FIR was registered by the state crime branch at its Mohali police station.
