In a surprise move, senior Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Bikram Singh Majithia’s Z + security cover was withdrawn by Punjab Police.
As per sources,” orders were received to withdraw the entire security cover of gunmen and vehicles which were part of Majithia’s security, immediately.”
Bikram Singh Majithia was provided Z+ security in 2010 during the rule of the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government in the Centre. This decision was based on a threat perception assessment and was cleared by then Home Minister P Chidambaram.
The 35-odd security personnel were ordered to leave the city where Majithia was visiting with his family immediately and return and report to their parent units to which they belonged. The security left the spot within minutes, leaving him unguarded.
It was also reported that officials were instructed to take photographs of the security personnel upon their return to their battalions and send them to senior officers.
Bikram Majithia was left with one police a personnel who was attached with him for long.
Majithia condemned the state government for withdrawing his security. He said, “When they failed in silencing my voice, they withdrew my security on the evening of March 29.”
“Withdrawal of the entire Z+ security cover of Bikram Singh Majithia confirms beyond doubt the dangerous and deadly designs of the AAP government against the SAD leadership,” claimed Sukhbir Singh Badal, brother-in-law of Majithia in a post on X.

“Whether the security of Bikram Singh Majithia has been removed for political reasons is a matter of debate for another day, but I would like to underscore to Bhagwant Mann govt that personal whims, fancies and political vendetta must never dictate such rash decisions. We all have earlier witnessed incidents following removal of security by this govt amidst much fanfare from Sidhu Moosewala. The CM must learn from his mistakes and keep politics aside and let law take its own course. Settling personal scores by withdrawing security of a leader belittles the CM’s Chair, if the CM cares” said Sunil Jakhar on his X account.
As per available information, few days ago, the same Punjab Police had written a letter to the Haryana and Delhi police forces during the last hearing of Majithia regarding his case in Supreme Court informing them that he would be travelling by road and should be provided with pilot vehicle and security during his transit and stay.”
