Major Rail accident in Amritsar,more than hundred casualties

A major rail accident occurred in Amritsar. Two trains DMU (from Jalandhar to Amritsar) and Howraha Mail train collided at Dhobi Ghat, Joauda Phatak in Amritsar. Residents were watching the Dushehra function when the accident occurred. Resident said when the firecrackers brust, people ran here and there, on rail track when the accident occurred.
Injured were transferred to the hospital. Police and administration already reached the accident site.The toll is expected to rise over 100. There were around 500-700 people at the spot.
The moment the effigy of Ravan caught fire, crackers started flying around. While trying to escape the crackers, people frantically started running on the railway tracks and could not see the approaching trains from either side of the tracks.Rescue operations are underway.
Punjab Cabinet Minister and MLA from Amritsar, Navjot Singh Sidhu’s wife Dr Navjot kaur Sidhu was the chief guest on the occasion.
Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh announces Rs. 5.00 lacs compensation to the deceased and free treatment to the injured. Capt Amrinder Singh will visit the accident site at Amritsar.capt Amarinder Singh cancelled his Tel Viv visit. He is going to sign the MOU’s with the govt.
Minister of State for railways Manoj Sinha and Chairman railway board already left and were reaching the accident site at Amritsar.
