‘Malerkotla Cultural Fair’ launched- People should enjoy the three day fair to the fullest – DC

‘Malerkotla Cultural Fair’ got off to a colourful start today at the local Urdu Academy with a call to make the state town of Malerkotla a ‘World Heritage and Cultural Heritage Site’. Dr Mohammad Jameel Ur Rehman, MLA, Malerkotla was the Chief Guest. The function was presided over by Deputy Commissioner  Madhavi Kataria.

Addressing the function, Dr Mohammad Jameel-ur-Rehman said that Malerkotla is a stronghold of politics as well as spirituality. Here people of all religions and castes live together in mutual love. With the immense blessings of Guru Gobind Singh Ji, examples of communal harmony and harmony are given all over the world. He assured that Malerkotla would be maintained as a land of love and harmony.

He said that the Punjab government would make all-out efforts to make Malerkotla a World Heritage and Cultural Heritage Site. The handicrafts run by the people in Malerkotla and other small handicrafts of the city will be promoted. He said that the old historical buildings of the city would be repaired so that they could be preserved for centuries. He said that such programs would be continued to connect future generations with the historicity of this city.

Reiterating the commitment of his government, he said that every effort would be made to curb the drug menace in the state. He assured full cooperation to Senior Superintendent of Police Dr Ravjot Kaur Grewal in this regard. The support of the people is essential to mend the system and elimination unemployment. He said that the city also needs to be beautified. That is why we all have to work with a missionary spirit.

Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner  Madhavi Kataria said that much remains to be done to bring this historic district on the world map. She has several plans in mind which will soon be put into practice under the guidance of the Punjab Government. She said that more and more buildings need immediate maintenance. She said that the renowned Aga Khan Foundation and the tourism department were being approached for the maintenance of Mubarak Manzil. Similarly, the land of Fort Rahmatgarh is under the jurisdiction of the Army, which is also being looked into.

Today, on the first day, After the recitation of Sura, Gayatri Mantra, Mool Mantra, Christian prayers, lamp lighting was lit by the chief guest. A photography exhibition was also set up by renowned photographer Ravinder Ravi on the occasion. The story of “Heer Waris Shah” was presented by  Sumail Singh Sidhu during the centenary celebrations of Waris Shah and later Heer was also sung. Later in the afternoon, the Punjabi film “Waris Shah-Ishq Da Waris” was screened at the Urdu Academy. The film was followed by a discussion.

The Deputy Commissioner further said that on 26th March at 11.00 am at Urdu Academy Malerkotla MLA Amargarh Prof. Jaswant Singh Gajnamajra would be present.  Sanwal Dhami will share his experiences of the partition of India. Residents of Malerkotla will also share their experiences during the partition. In addition to sharing partition video clips, plays based on 2 independent stories will be presented. Then the Hindi film screening ‘Road-to-Sangam’ will be shown and after the film, a discussion session will be held. On the second day of the function, a mushaira will be organized at the Urdu Academy at 06.30 pm.

‘Malerkotla Cultural Fair’ launched- People should enjoy the three day fair to the fullest – DC. On the last day of the fair on 27th March at Government College, Malerkotla at 11.00 am local artists of Malerkotla will present their skills. Band performance will be performed at 02.00 hrs.

Eventually, Punjabi cultural programs will be held. In which Malwai Giddha, Sammi, Jindua, Ludi and Bhangra etc. will be presented. The “Malerkotla Cultural Fair” will conclude with a Qawali function at 6.30 pm. SDM  Jasbir Singh, Assistant Commissioner  Gurmeet Kumar and others were present on the occasion today.
