Malerkotla police becoming headache for drug smugglers; 5 arrested in back to back operations with consignments

In a major breakthrough, Malerkotla Police has caught 05 drug smugglers in two back-to-back operations, seizing 54 kg of illegal poppy husk and 30 gm of heroin along with two heavy trucks.
In the first operation, 24 kg and 30 kg of poppy husk was found hidden in two separate Rajasthan trucks entering Malerkotla. Based on a tip-off, the police teams intercepted the vehicles and uncovered the narcotics concealed cleverly in cavities inside.
Three persons have been arrested for smuggling the poppy husk – Jaswant Singh @ Sant Singh, Gurpreet Singh @ Guri and Santokh Singh all habitant of Ahmedgrah, Malerkotla.
In the separate operation, 30 gm of heroin being carried by two motorcycle-borne youths, Mulkhraj and Harjot Singh, was seized after a chase near link load Malerkotla. Their aide Simranpreet Singh is absconding and raids are being conducted to arrest him.
The senior superintendent of police (SSP) Harkamal Preet Singh Khakh said that the CIA team under DSP D Kuldeep Singh has busted two back to back drug smuggling rackets. The investigations are on to bust the entire network endangering young lives, he added.
The arrested accused have been booked under relevant sections of NDPS Act at police station Sadar Ahmedgarh and police station Amargarh respectively.

SSP Khakh added that Malerkotla Police will continue to hunt down all illegal drug trades targeting youth with strict action against peddlers and smugglers. Making the region drug-free by saving our youth’s future is our goal.
