Bhagwant Mann led aam aadmi party’s government wrests Congress stronghold, secured seat Jalandhar as the AAP candidate has secured over two lacs vote by 11:50 am and the lead is increasing with every vote. The margin is over 40K votes and now only official announcement of Sushil Rinku winning the by-election is pending.
Since independence, a total 19 elections were held to elect member parliament from Jalandhar and out of these ,15 times the voters elected Congress candidate as their representative in the Lok sabha.
AAP’s Sushil Rinku is leading and Karamjit Kaur Chaudhary, the widow of late MP Santokh Singh Chaudhary whose demise in January due to cardiac arrest during Punjab leg of Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra necessitated the Jalandhar bypoll is at number two position.
This is going to be the first politically win for AAP after forming the government in Punjab in March 2022 and after losing Sangrur parliamentary by- elections in 2022.
It seems the voters of Jalandhar parliamentary seat have given thumbs up to Mann’s 300 unit free power to all, irrespective of any caste, religion, reservation etc. along with his government’s anti-corruption movement , free Aam Aadmi Clinics amongst other people centric policies. AAP had fielded a turncoat leader and former MLA and prominent Ravidassia leader Sushil Rinku, who switched over to aam aadmi party from congress, just few days ago before the by-elections.
On the other hand the Congress’s united face, Sidhu Moosewala’s father ‘appeal, Sukhpal Kahira’s allegation against AAP’s minister of having “exploited” a man in an alleged sex tape video submitted to Punjab governor Banwarilal Purohit failed to save their strong seat.
Mann Chairsma worked, AAP wrests Jalandhar from Congress over people centric policies. In the four cornered contest in Jalandhar parliamentary by-elections, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leads in the ongoing results (at 11:50 AM) with Congress appears finishing distant second with BJP at third position and and Akali Dal trying to be in political relevance after getting trounced to three seats in Punjab elections last year is at number four. Had the SAD and BJP fight the elections jointly, the scene would have been different.
Inder Iqbal another turncoat leader, is the son of former Lok Sabha Deputy Speaker and former akali dal leader Charanjit Singh Atwal. Notably, Charanjit Atwal had contested the 2019 Lok Sabha elections on a SAD ticket but lost to Santokh Chaudhary is at third position, joins BJP during the by-elections.
The SAD-BSP alliance chose its sitting MLA from Banga (reserved) constituency Dr Sukhwinder Kumar Sukhi is at number four .
