Mata Gujri College organizes 52nd athletic meet; Rishab and Harmanjot chosen best athlete

Mata Gujri College held 52nd annual Athletic Meet. On this occasion, Gobind Singh Longowal, President of SGPC arrived as a chief guest whereas during the prize distribution ceremony, Pritpal Singh Balu, President of NRI Alumni Wing attended this event as the special guest. 21 contingents of more than 1500 students of various departments participated in the march-past with lot of fervour.

President Gobind Singh Longowal said, “Mata Gujri College is performing incredible academically. Students of this college have earned lot of fame in the fields of education, sports and cultural activities.” He added, “SGPC is contributing for the welfare of Sikh Community, Punjabis and country. It is trying to spread teachings of Guru Nanak Dev ji to the whole world.” He also motivated students to participate in sports along with their studies.

Director Principal Dr. Kashmir Singh welcomed guests and sharing achievements of the college in the field of academics, sports and cultural, said, “Mata Gujri College is committed for the overall growth of students.” He added, “Teachers and students are achieving lot of success on national and international level with their lot of hard work.”

Ranjit Singh Libra, Honorary Secretary of College governing body, said, “Students should participate in the sports competitions for the better growth of their body and mind.”

On this occasion, Dr. Parminder Kaur Randhawa (Dean Sports and Head of the physical education department) was honoured for her great service to the college for 26 years. In addition, former students of physical education department who are designated on various posts were also honoured.

Dr. Bikramjit Singh (Controller Examinations) and Prof. Anupreet Singh Tiwana conducted stage very well.

In 400m race (Boys), Rishab Tiwari, Aniket and Gursewak Singh secured 1st, 2nd and 3rd positions respectively. In 800m race (Boys) Rishab Tiwari, Pardeep Singh and Pardeep stood 1st, 2nd and 3rd respectively. In 1500m race, Rishab Tiwari, Ankit and Sumit Kumar bagged 1st, 2nd and 3rd positions respectively. In high jump (Boys), Harmanpreet Singh, Pardeep and Aniket stood 1st, 2nd and 3rd respectively. In discus throw, Karanveer Singh, Jatinder Singh and Jatinder secured 1st, 2nd and 3rd positions respectively. In javelin throw, Gurmeet Singh, Sumit and Thakur Roshan bagged 1st, 2nd and 3rd positions respectively. In shot put, Jatinder Singh, Karanvir Singh and Jatinder Singh won 1st, 2nd and 3rd positions respectively.

In 200m race (Girls), Harmanjot Kaur, Prabhjot Kaur and Tanu Saini secured 1st, 2nd and 3rd positions respectively. In high jump, Navdeep Kaur, Tanu Saini and Manjot Kaur bagged 1st, 2nd and 3rd positions respectively. In discus throw, Gurpreet Kaur, Navdeep Kaur and Bhoomika won 1st, 2nd and 3rd positions respectively. In javelin throw, Simranpreet Kaur, Sunaina and Guneet Kaur stood 1st, 2nd and 3rd respectively. In shot put, Simranpreet Kaur, Sunaina and Bhoomika secured 1st, 2nd and 3rd positions respectively. In organizing these competitions, MBA students played very important role.

On this occasion, Avtar Singh Reeya, Member SGPC, Senior Akali Leader Jagdeep Singh Cheema, Surinder Kaur, Dr. Pritpal Singh (Vice Chancellor, Shri Guru Granth Sahib World University), Dr. Gurmohan Singh Walia, Dr. Kanwaljit Singh, Sher Singh, Principal Dr. Dharminder Singh Ubha, Principal Dr. Baljit Singh, Principal Dr. Sukhdev Singh, Principal Dr. Rajinderjit Singh Bajwa, Principal Dr. Ramanjit Kaur, S.P. S. Harpal Singh,Darshan Singh, P.A.
