Mata Gujri College successfully concludes two-day Environfest ‘Parkirti’

A two-day Environfest ‘Parkirti’ for school students organised at Mata Gujri College, Fatehgarh Sahib was successfully concluded. The festival was held under the Environment Education Programme in alignment with mission LiFE-Lifestyle for Environment of the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change for which Punjab State Council of Science and Technology, acted as the nodal agency. During this festival, the students of the schools got an opportunity to participate in various activities related to environmental conservation like educational workshops, exhibitions, collage making, quiz, poster presentation and story writing competitions.

Director Principal Dr. Kashmir Singh thanked PSCST for providing the funding for the programme. During the festival, various events were held to spread awareness about environmental issues and motivate children to adopt a healthy and sustainable lifestyle.

Dr. Manish Kapoor from Punjabi University Patiala delivered the inaugural address. On first day of the festival, a workshop on ‘Carbon Reduction Practices’ was organised in which renowed educationists and environmentalists Dr. Balwinder Singh Lakhewali , President Society for Conservation and Healing of Environment (SOCH) and Dr. Brij Mohan Bhardwaj, Secretary SOCH acted as the resource persons.

Various exhibitions were also held which included Marvellous Millets-Exhibition of Healthy Millet Products; Best out of Waste-Exhibition of Floral crafts and demonstration of waste Management Techniques. Student visits to herbal and botanical garden were also conducted. Various documentaries and films related to environment conservation were also screened for the participants.

On the second day of the festival, various competitions include collage making, slogan writing, just a minute, article writing, video film making, poster presentation, quiz contest were conducted on environment related topics in which students from various schools participated with much enthusiasm. The exhibitions were visited by about 1300 students from 27 schools of various districts of Punjab. Awards were given to the winners by Dr. Balwinder Singh Sooch, Professor and Head Department of Biotechnology and Food Technology Punjabi University Patiala. Students also took a life pledge to save the environment and motivate family, friends and others about the importance of environmentally friendly habits.

On this occasion, Vice Principal Dr. Bikramjit Singh, Prof. Namita Beri, Program Coordinator Dr. Jagdish Singh, Co-Coordinator Dr. Kuldeep Kaur, Dr. Harjeet Singh, Dr. Jagjiwan Singh, Dr. Tejinder Singh, Prof. Pardeep Kaur, Dr. Kamalpreet Kaur, Dr. Neetu Trehan, Dr. Sorabh Gupta, Dr. Loveneet Kaur, Dr. Monika, Dr. Ajay Singh, Dr. Sandeep Kumar Singh, Dr. Jujhar Singh, Heads of Science departments, teachers and students were present.
