MC Inspector arrested for taking Rs 1 lakh bribe-vigilance bureau

The Punjab Vigilance Bureau today arrested an Inspector posted in Municipal Corporation, Phagwara in building branch for taking bribe of Rs. 1,00,000.

Disclosing this here today, DGP-cum-Chief Director Vigilance Bureau B.K.Uppal said that Inspector Palaparneet Singh of MC Phagwara has been arrested by the Vigilance team for accepting bribe of Rs.1,00,000 from the complainant Satinder Singh resident of Phagwara, Kapurthala.

He further informed that the complainant has approached the VB and alleged that above said Inspector has demanded Rs. 1,00,000 as bribe for allowing construction of boundary wall and approving the map of his 20 marla plot which was registered in the name of his mother. The complainant stated that Inspector Palaparneet Singh has demanded Rs. 1,00,000 as government fee for approving the map of his plot. The complainant’s father Jaswinder Singh has given him Rs 50,000 in two installments.

Consequently, he added when complainant’s father Jaswinder Singh visited the office, he came to know that accused Inspector has been transferred after  suspension. When Jaswinder Singh inquired about the file relating to his plot, he was told that no such file was submitted in this office. In this way, Inspector Palaparneet Singh has duped Jaswinder Singh and taken Rs. 1,00,000 in the name of Government fee.

He added that Jaswinder Singh has registered a complaint against the above said Inspector in Police Station Satnampura, Phagwara. Investigation Officer has called both the parties in Police Station and during the investigation the above said Inspector has accepted that he has taken Rs. 1,00,000 from Jaswinder Singh. Further, Inspector Palaparneet Singh said that he has returned Rs. 15,000 to Jaswinder Singh and would return the remaining amount within one month. Inspector Palaparneet Singh has given a cheque of Rs. 85000 of Kotak Mahindra Bank to Jaswinder Singh. But, when he submitted this cheque of Rs. 85000 for encashment but the same was bounced by the bank.

In this way, Inspector Palaparneet Singh took undue favour by misusing his official position and his involvement in this bribery case has been established.

He informed that a case under Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against the accused Inspector at VB Police station, Jalandhar and further investigation was under progress.
