“To prevent the growing number of illegal constructions in the city, the Municipal Corporation will begin strict action from tomorrow” said Kudan Gogia, mayor, Patiala Municipal Corporation.

Gogia’s action came after reports of rampant illegal constructions continuing unchecked in Patiala, raising serious concerns over urban planning and public safety, which were highlighted by residents, the media, and opposition leaders across various platforms. Despite existing building regulations, unauthorized structures are coming up across residential and commercial areas, often without approved building plans. This unchecked growth is not only distorting the city’s planned development but also putting pressure on civic infrastructure and posing safety risks to residents.

Adding further Gogia said “Anyone found carrying out construction illegally without getting the building plan approved will face immediate action as per the law.”

Chairing the meeting with MC officials the Mayor emphasized that approval of building plans is essential for proper urban planning and public safety. Unauthorized constructions not only spoil the city’s appearance but can also create several problems in the future. Therefore, the Municipal Corporation has decided that illegal construction will not be tolerated under any circumstances.

Appealing to the public, the Mayor said that anyone planning to construct a building must first get the building plan approved by the Municipal Corporation. He also stated that if anyone faces any difficulty during the approval process or if any Municipal Corporation employee harasses them, they can contact him directly without fear.

The Mayor clarified that the aim of the Municipal Corporation is not to harass people, but to ensure development of the city in accordance with rules and regulations. Wherever people follow legal procedures, the Municipal Corporation will extend full cooperation. However, strict action is necessary wherever rules are violated.

He further said that during today’s meeting, officials were given clear instructions to identify illegal constructions and take immediate action. At the same time, they were directed to ensure that the general public does not face any unnecessary inconvenience.

Mayor appealed to the residents of the city to cooperate with the Municipal Corporation and contribute towards making the city well-planned, safe, and developed.
