MC Seizes 100 kg of single-use plastic in Mohali

To curb the use of single use plastic in Mohali, Municipal Corporation initiated a checking drive on the directions of  Navjot Kaur, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation SAS Nagar,  in vegetable markets at different places in Mohali.

A team led by Joint Commissioner Kiran Sharma and Assistant Commissioner Manpreet Singh the visited the vegetable market in Sector-68 and Sector-71 and made the vendors and people aware of ban plastic carry bags.

During checking, around 100 kg of plastic carry bags and single-use plastic were seized, and challans were issued in this regard.

Kiran Sharma, while addressing the vegetable vendors, said that all vendors and people should keep the market clean. Meanwhile, she also passed on the strict instructions to the employees of the Punjab Mandi Board, who were present in the market, that if plastic bags were used in the market, they would be held responsible because the weekly vegetable markets are being held under the supervision of the Punjab Mandi Board.

Similarly, the vendors and vegetables sellers also warned of strict action, If single-use plastic was caught from them. All vegetable sellers must follow the rules of the government so that the use of banned single-use plastic can be eliminated.

The Joint Commissioner, Municipal Corporation, Mohali, appealed to the city residents that single-use plastic and plastic carry bags are environment hazardous, so people must carry a cloth bag from home for shopping.

MC Seizes 100 kg of single-use plastic in Mohali. During the campaign, Chief Sanitary Inspector Sarabjit Singh, Sanitary Inspector Ranjit Singh, Harmander Singh Sanitary Supervisor,  Bittu Bigla, and Zorawar Singh were present.

Meanwhile, the presidents of the respective markets took a pledge that they would not use plastic bags. People who came to the market with a bag of clothes appreciated the campaign of the Municipal Corporation of Mohali.
