MC’s violating Solid Waste Management rules will be penalised form 31 March: Jasbir Singh

All  Executive officers (EOs) to work with integrity and dedication to make the city garbage free and to ensure 100 percent door to door garbage collection. Besides this boundary wall around dumping grounds and green belts near these boundaries should also be ensured. Municipal Councils  violating Solid Waste Management rules will be penalised form 31 March. These directions were issued by Jasbir Singh, Retd. Justice Pb. & Haryana High court, and Chairman National Green Tribunal Monitoring Committee, while addressing a meeting with EOs, and officials of district level special task force.

Chairman Jasbir Singh directed the EOs to ensure implementation of Solid Waste Management rules 2016 in true spirit. He said that increasing pollution causing serious problems, which is a major concern of the day. Retd. Justice Jasbir Singh said that officers should think differently to play important role for the task. He said that all EOs  will submit weekly report to Deputy Commissioners regarding the tasks performed under Solid Waste Management. He further said that awareness among general public will be generated through small meetings, nukkad natak and conferences.

Chairman NGT Monitoring committee directed for complete ban on use of plastic bags and directed to take appropriate action against the violators and information of the violators should be given to Punjab Pollution Control Boars officials. During this he directed the officials of Punjab Pollution Control Board to ensure setting up of ETP at hospitals of Fathegarh Sahib district, so that underground water table could be prevented from pollution.

During this Environment lover and member NGT monitoring committee Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal said that we should learn and follow the path of our gurus and said that we have to face serious consequences, if we do not protect earth, water and air from pollution and coming generations will never forgive us for this. He said that NGT will now monitor Solid Waste Management 24/7 and officials will be made responsible for the same.

During this Former Chief Secretary and Member NGT Monitoring Committee, S. C. Aggarwal also directed the EOs to work dedicatedly for Solid Waste Management. He said that open garbage dumping should be prevented and flowery plants should be planted near them to enhance the beatification in region. Member NGT Babu Ram apprised about the Solid Waste Management Rules 2016. During this Deputy Commissioner Amrit Kaur Gill assured for implementation of directions of NGT monitoring committees. He said that target for 100% door to door collection should be ensured by Municipal Corporations and Panchayats. During the meeting Project Director PMIDC Dr. Puran Singh explained about the works being carried out under Solid Waste Management.

During the meeting Additional Deputy Commissioner Jaspreet Singh, SP (D) S. Harpal Singh, SDM Fatehgarh Sahib Dr. Sanjiv Kumar, SDM Bassi Pathana Pavittar Singh, SDM Khamano Paramjit Singh, Assistant Commissioner (G) Jaspreet Singh, CJM Parminder Kaur, SE Punjab Pollution Control Board Rajiv Sharma, Executive Engineer Vijay Kumar, All EOs and officers of various departments were present. After this, Chairman NGT Committee, Members, Deputy commissioner and other officials visited the dumping ground at Gobindgarh, MRF Centre and STP.
