Medical and dental teachers of Government Medical and Dental Colleges in Patiala have out rightly rejected the Central Government’s move allowing ayurvedic Practioners perform surgical procedures of multiple specialities. On a call by Punjab State Medical and Dental Teachers Association Patiala Unit supporting the protest by Indian Medical association, the doctors working in Government Medical, Dental Colleges and Rajindra Hospital in Patiala today observed two hours pen down protest. Except emergency and Covid-19 related services, all other services including outdoor functioning, elective surgeries and teaching of the medical students remained suspended for two hours.

In a joint press statement, Dr DS Bhullar President and Dr Darshanjit Singh Walia General Secretary of the association alleged that the Central Government is bent upon legalizing quackery in the country which may play havoc with lives of the people and patients by mixing ayurvedic and allopathic systems of medicine and instead of encouraging such mixopathy, all the systems in medicine should be promoted separately.

Making a strong appeal to the allopathic doctors of the country to immediately stop deputing ayurvedic Practioners in allopathic hospital and nursing homes across the country, the association leaders demanded immediate resignation of Dr Harsh Vardhan, health minister of India on moral grounds who himself is an allopath but has utterly failed to the protect the modern allopathic system in the country rather he has misguided the central government in drafting such mixopathy law in the country which is in fact a retrograde step detrimental to the health of the people. The Government of India should withdraw this controversial notification in public interest as such system of medical practice exists nowhere in the world, said the association leaders.
