MGSIPA organizes programme on Gender Responsive Budgeting at Sri Muktsar Sahib

Aiming to enhance Gender Equality and strengthen the process of Gender Budgeting, Mahatma Gandhi State Institute of Public Administration Punjab (MGSIPA), Regional Centre, Bathinda organized three-day Training and Capacity Building Programme on the subject “Gender Responsive Budgeting” here today. About 25 key functionaries of different concerned departments of the district joined the programme. The training programme has been sponsored by Department of Personnel and Training, Government of India. The experts including Dr. Nimmi Jindal HOD Law, Punjabi University  Regional Centre Bathinda and Gurmeet singh Sekhon Advocate dwelled on various issues of planing, programming and budgeting that help to advance gender equality and women’s rights. They also discussed various challenges coming in the process to reduce gender disparities and discrimination against the women.

Interacting with the participants, Jarnail Singh, Regional Project Director, MGSIPA Regional Centre, Bathinda highlighted various schemes of government of India and state government for empowerment of women. He said that this is a very significant subject focusing on bringing about social cohesion and positive change in society at large. He said that various studies indicate that women face various forms of vulnerability and discrimination throughout their life cycle in our social system. We increase in budgets for their welfare in one of the important way to significantly reduce these vulnerabilities. He appealed to the participants to contribute in this noble cause.

Referring to the series of training programme being organized by Mahatma Gandhi state institute of public Administration. Jarnail Singh said that the institute got a major fillip in its training activities under the able guidance of Karan Bir Singh Sidhu Special Chief Secretary Cum Director General and Jaspreet Talwar Principal Secretary Govt.of Punjab cum Director  MGSIPA. He said that under their leadership MGSIPA has got international recognition with the civil servants coming from other nations for their mid career training programme.

Today’s Gender Responsive Budgeting Programme is a successful venture as it has attracted questions from participants about the subject. Mandeep Singh, Coordinator highlighted the objective of the programme.
