MHA releases ranking of police stations 2020; PS Sadar adjudged best in Punjab

Ministry of home affairs has released its annual All India Ranking of Police stations 2020.The attraction of this year’s ranking of police station is that most of the top-ranked police stations in the country are not located in any metropolitan area.

Police station Sadar Rampura in Bathinda district tops Punjab, under this pan India survey. When contacted the senior superintendent of police Bathinda Bhupinderjit Singh Virk said’ it’s a reward for the good work done by the Punjab police, in public dealings ,in rural area.”

SHO of sadar Rampura police station sub inspector Bhupinderjit Singh said,” it’s a team work and it all became possible due the time to time guidance and instructions given in routine,by the high officials, which helps us in improving the facilities.”

In 2015 at the DGPs/ IGPs conference at Kutch, Gujarat, PM Narinder Modi directed the ministry of home affairs to formulate a scheme to identify, recognize and rank the best police stations in the country.

A pan India survey was conducted and the execution of this survey rested in the hands of the team of qualified surveyors on Grant Thornton Bharat LLP, that was prepared after a careful selection and training process, to observe maintenance and upkeep infrastructure along with behavior and approach ability of police officers.

The annual ranking of police stations is an exercise to contribute to bring improvements in the functioning of police, On the one hand it encourages hard working police personnel and others to keep motivated and on other hand it exhibits a high level satisfaction and trust in police by citizens.

It was also observed in the pan India survey that many police stations with older structure maintained the assets and high level of cleanliness against with those police stations that were provided with new buildings and they failed to maintain the cleanliness at the same level.

Also fire safety is least attended in the police stations with 86 percent of the police stations without fire alarms.

It was also observed that ramp facility was not available for persons with disabilities in many police stations. 52 percent did not have any separate facility for recreational activities/ playgrounds/ gym etc.

In an interesting public feedback section, 60 percent of the respondents believe that no action is taken on online complaints. Likewise 60 percent of the respondents raised the concern on non availability of online platforms for FIR registration.   Only 42 percent of the respondents coming out of the police station received copy of FIR. 50 percent beat constables did not interact with the public.
