Chetan Singh Jouramajra, Punjab’s Water Resources Minister, has directed officials from the Drainage and Irrigation Department to visit their respective areas accompanied by Constituency MLAs to better understand ground realities. Emphasizing the importance of implementing recommendations to prevent potential flood hazards, he stressed the need for diligent execution.
Under the directives of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, Minister Jouramajra urged officials to ensure prompt and honest efforts in providing canal water for irrigation to the state’s farmers, warning that under performing officials will face consequences.
Conducting a state-level joint meeting with MLAs from various constituencies, Cabinet Minister Jouramajra, along with officials from the drainage and canal departments under the Water Resources Department, assessed the department’s progress in Patiala. Present in the meeting were MLAs Gurlal Ghanour, Gurpreet Singh Bananwali, Kulwant Singh Shutrana, Amit Ratan, Jagsir Singh Bhucho Mandi, Virinder Goyal Lehragaga, Kuljit Singh Randhawa Derabsi, and Labh Singh Ugoko, alongside Chief Engineer Hardeep Singh Mahindiratta, Superintending Engineer Manoj Bansal, and other senior officials.
Commending Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Maan’s administration for ensuring water supply to the tail ends for irrigation, the MLAs expressed their appreciation.
Acting on the MLAs’ feedback, Minister Jouramajra instructed drainage department officials to implement flood prevention recommendations, especially along the Ghaggar River and other waterways. He highlighted the need to reinforce riverbanks, channels, resolve blockades caused by low bridges and siphons, and conduct photography and videography of all canal department rest houses. Stressing the importance of prioritizing all Water Resources Department-related tasks across constituencies, he urged timely completion.
Minister Chetan Singh Jouramajra, overseeing portfolios of Water and Land Conservation, Mining and Geology, Information and Public Relations, Horticulture, Freedom Fighters, and Defense Services Welfare, reiterated Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann’s vision. He emphasized the aim of ensuring canal water reaches at every farm and tail end, reducing Punjab’s reliance on tube-wells for irrigation. Minister Jouramajra emphasized immediate action against illegal encroachments on departmental land to facilitate farmers’ access to canal water for irrigation.
