Minister Meet Hayer dedicates Rs 40 lacs Brigadier Balwinder Singh Shergill youth library to Dangarh villagers

The Cabinet Minister for Environment  Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer inaugurated Brigadier Balwinder Singh Memorial Youth Library at the martyr’s native village Dangarh here today.

The inauguration of this library worth Rs 40 lakhs was done in presence of martyr’s wife Harinder Kaur, his daughter Perneet Shergill who is Deputy Commissioner Fatehgarh Sahib and Punamdeep Kaur Deputy Commissioner Barnala.

Speaking at the event,  Meet Hayer said that Brigadier Balwinder Singh Shergill was killed in Kupwara sector on 21 August 2000. The village already has a park dedicated to him and now a library has been added to the area in memory of Brigadier  Shergill. “As a nation we owe a lot to the martyrs who laid down their lives protecting us. This library is a tribute to the noble soul who died for the country. Library has been constructed at a cost of Rs 40 lakhs and it also houses the NREGA Bhawan of the village,” he said. He added that computers and more books will be added to the library so that it becomes a hotspot for youngsters to prepare for competitive exams as well as study further.

Minister  Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer also laid foundation stone of water treatment project at village Jodhpur. Under this project, which is to be constructed at cost of Rs 9 lakhs, the water collected from drains will be emptied into the pond after treating it.

Speaking at the inaugural event,  Meet Hayer said that the treatment plant will give people respite from the foul smell emitting pond. He also directed that the modernization of the pond be done so that the area around can get a better look. Officials were instructed to ensure that a park is constructed in the near vicinity to enable youngsters and elderly spend their leisure time constructively.

Meanwhile, the Minister also laid the foundation stone of the health wellness center at Handiaya which is to be constructed at a cost of Rs 29 lakhs. Minister said that the center will be readied in a span of three months. The center will mainly work on creating awareness on hypertension and diabetes, which are known to be silent killers in Indian patients. At the sametime center will offer services regarding motehr and child health care and communicable diseases like dengue, malaria etc.

Chairman District Planning Board Gurdeep Singh Batth, ADC Dr Narinder Singh Dhaliwal, SDM Gopal Singh, BDPO Sukhdeep Singh, Minister’s OSD Hasanpreet Bharadwaj, Col Karam Inder Singh, Dr Megha Singh, Civil Surgeon Dr Jasvir Singh Aulakh and others were present.
