The BJP-JJP government in Haryana is headed for major changes on Tuesday, with the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls putting an end to four and a half year alliance of both the parties.

The top leaderships of both the BJP and JJP (Jannayak Janata Party) have called separate meetings of their respective MLAs. Before that, Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar will hold a meeting of all BJP ministers at his residence.

“After clear indication from saffron party leadership that BJP alone is going to contest on all 10 lok sabha seats in Haryana, this might forces its ally Jannayak Janta Party (JJP) to break the alliance before the upcoming lok sabha elections” said Sumit, a political analysist of Haryana.

Kamalpreet Singh, another resident said that “today’s action is mere a formality as it was already expected in political, bureaucratic circles that this alliance will break before the lok sabha polls as both are politically ambitious and wants to prove their mettle before the assembly polls. The party aims to increase its number of MLAs from 10 (2019 assembly polls) to two third in the 2024 assembly polls.”

Haryana assembly polls are also schedule for October 2024.

Keeping future political complusions in mind, the JJP in July 2023 had already launched ‘Mission Dushyant 2024’ at its Nav Sankalp rally in Julana town of Jind district — part of the Sonipat Lok Sabha constituency — projecting party leader and Haryana deputy chief minister Dushyant Chautala as its CM candidate for next year’s state polls.

At that time, party leaders led by Dushyant’s father and JJP national president Ajay Singh Chautala had announced at the rally that they would “ensure that the key to open the lock of the Haryana government comes into the hands of the JJP”. The ‘key’ is the election symbol of the JJP.

“We will open the lock of the Haryana Vidhan Sabha in 2024. We will also ensure our presence in the Lok Sabha by performing well in next year’s polls,” Dushyant had told the gathering at the rally.

Under Mission Dushyant 2024, the JJP has set a target of “increasing vote share from 17 percent (in the 2019 assembly polls) to 51 percent” in next year’s state polls, and drawn up plans to hold rallies in all 10 Lok Sabha constituencies, Ajay Chautala had told the gathering.
