The new week started on a different note for Punjab state power corporation limited (PSPCL). Today, with a change in weather, the demand start crashing and, in few hours, it reduces to almost half of the highest demand, that once remained in the state.
As per PSPCL officials “ it is due to thunderstorm and the rain that lashes some part of the state. The industry in the state is already under power regulatory measures (not working), AC’s off in the state, govt office working from 8 am to 2 pm, that’s might be the reason, the power demand in the state crashes to almost 7700 MW, much below the expectations to the powercom. It brings relief for PSPCL. The power demand rose to 14500 plus MW, just last week. With the change in the weather, the much-needed rain lashes the border state, the power consumption reduced drastically. This brings cheers on the faces of PSPCL management, officers and field staff.”
The weather within the PSPCL becomes cool with today’s rain in the state, after a scorching condition remained prevalent in the power sector, for many days.
When contacted the PSPCL director distribution Er DIPS Grewal, he said “almost all parts of the state received its first rain. With today’s rain, that lashed almost all parts of the state, the power sector got a relief. Now, the PSPCL is going to relax the industry of Central and Border Zone, from regulatory measures. The other good news for PSPCL is that unit number 2 of Talwandi Sabo Power Limited (TSPL) starts working. “
With the demand crashes, the other two power giants Nabha Power Limited (NPL) Rajpura and GVK Goindwal Sahib were asked to reduce the power generation, to half of their capacity. All units of state owned GHTP Lehra Mohabbat are still working, almost on full load. Another state-owned thermal unit GGSSTP, Ropar’s three units are working and one unit is still under repair.
In hydel, all the four units of Ranjit Sagar Dam stopped working. UBDC is shut downed. The gross generation reduced from all sources, to 2900 MW plus.
