Maharaja Ranjit Singh Punjab Technical University (MRSPTU), Bathinda, observed the 186th death anniversary of Maharaja Ranjit Singh, paying heartfelt tribute to the legendary Sikh emperor known as Sher-e-Punjab (Lion of Punjab).
In a solemn ceremony held on campus, MRSPTU Registrar Dr. Gurinder Pal Singh Brar, along with faculty and staff, offered floral tributes and reflected on the life, leadership, and contributions of Maharaja Ranjit Singh.
Dr. Brar described him as a visionary monarch who unified the warring factions and princely states of Punjab into a strong, secular Sikh Empire in the early 19th century.
Born on November 13, 1780, in Gujranwala (now in Pakistan), Maharaja Ranjit Singh passed away on June 29, 1839, in Lahore. His reign was marked by military excellence, good governance, and a deeply rooted commitment to religious harmony. By the end of his rule, his empire stretched from the Sutlej River to the Khyber Pass.
“Maharaja Ranjit Singh will always be remembered as a fearless warrior, a wise statesman, and a unifier of Punjab. He ruled with humility and ensured peace and coexistence among diverse communities,” said Dr. Brar. He also highlighted the emperor’s inclusive governance, which placed Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs, and Christians in key positions of authority.
