MRSPTU –SOMME to organize 8th International conference on AFTMME 2020-VC

8th International Conference on Advancements and Futuristic Trends in Mechanical and Materials Engineering (AFTMME 2020) will be organised by Society of Materials and Mechanical Engineers (SOMME) in collaboration with Maharaja Ranjit Singh Punjab Technical University (MRSPTU), Bathinda on December 19-20, 2020.
In a press release issued here on Friday, SOMME President and MRSPTU, Vice Chancellor, Prof. Buta Singh Sidhu said keeping in view the prevailing COVID -19 Pandemic situations, AFTMME- 2020 will be an online conference and bringing together leading academicians, scientists and researchers to exchange and share their thoughts, experiences and international research outcomes. The primary goal of the conference is to promote research and developmental activities in mechanical engineering, he added.
More than 150 research papers received so far from prominent international institutes, including all IITs, NITs will participate in this programme.
The programme is being sponsored by State Bank of India (main sponsor) and co-sponsors are Central Bank of India, M.M. International Jalandhar, Nerva Holidays Jalandhar and Niharika Technologies, Jalandhar.
Giving more details MRSPTU, Mechanical engineering department head Dr. Rajesh Gupta and Program Coordinator Yadwinder Sharma said that the conference will be hosted by MRSPTU in collaboration with SOMME. They added that another attraction of the conference will be Undergraduate Presentation Skill Contest (UPSC) 2020. The contest will be a golden opportunity to hone skills with cash prizes i.e. 1st Prize Rs. 51,000, 2nd Prize Rs. 31,000 and 3rd Prize 21,000, beside additional S. Gurdev Singh Memorial Award of Rs. 11,000 for best technical content. More than 250 students have already been registered for the contest till now.
All plenary sessions, technical sessions, inaugural and valedictory ceremonies will be held online by accommodating the different time zones of all participants. The conference also supports offline/in-person participation for those who are interested.
It is worthwhile to mention here that the AFTMME series of the conference was started in the year 2006, at Giani Zail Singh Campus College of Engineering and Technology (GZSCCET), Bathinda. Later in year 2010 and 2011, National conference AFTMME was organized at Yadavindra College of Engineering, Punjabi University Campus, Talwandi Sabo and IKGPTU Kapurthala.
Subsequently, every year, Society of Materials and Mechanical Engineers (SOMME) organized international conference series (AFTMME) at various venues like IKGPTU Kapurthala, BFCET Bathinda, SUSCET Tangori, SSG Regional Centre Panjab University, Hoshiarpur and most recently in the year 2019 in association with IIT Ropar at their campus.
It may also be mentioned here that SOMME is a registered society, which is working to promote the research and education in the technical field. The Society was founded in 2015 under the patronage of Dr. Satya Prakash (Retired Professor, IIT Roorkee). Prof. Buta Singh Sidhu is President of Society, while Dr. Harpreet Singh (Coordinator and Professor, Mechanical Engineering Department, IIT Ropar) is senior vice president and 11 other members of the Society are also working in reputed organisations.
