National Conference inaugurated in Modi College Patiala

UGC Sponsored two day National Conference on Recent Advances in Chemical, Biological and Environmental Sciences (RACES-2018) was inaugurated at Multani Mal Modi College, Patiala. Dr. T. P. Singh, Ex Professor and Head, Dept. of Biophysics, AIIMS, New Delhi inaugurated the conference. While addressing the delegates he said that over-regulated structured research is causing hindrance to the incidental discoveries occurring out of passionate research. He also added that human resources are the real wealth of the country and knowledge based economics will rule the future.

College Principal, Dr. Khushvinder Kumar welcomed the guests and the scholars. He said that today we are faced with multiple challenges in the spheres of environment, food security and public health. Scientists have a responsibility to provide answers for pertinent social problems. A souvenir cum abstract book was also released on the occasion.

While speaking on the occasion the Guest of Honour, Dr. Ashok K. Malik, Professor and Head, Department of Chemistry, Punjabi University, Patiala said that this conference is going to be a real learning experience for the young researchers.

Prof. Dr. Sanjay K. Mandal, Dept. of Chemical Sciences, IISER, Mohali while delivering his keynote address on Novel Materials for Nano Scale Sensing and drug delivery stressed upon the need for correct interpretation and analysis of available scientific data.

The second technical session of the day was presided by Dr. Gurdarshan Singh Brar, Joint Director (Administration), DPI (Colleges), Punjab. He said that students should be encouraged to pursue research in the field of environmental sciences.

Dr. Ashwani Mittal, Dept. of Biochemistry, University College, Kurukshetra in his talk on Skeletal Muscle Wasting discussed innovative therapeutic molecules which might help in resolving the disease. Dr. Tejwant Singh Kang, Dept. of Chemistry, GNDU, Amritsar delved in the synthesis of novel ionogels having unique physico chemical properties that can be exploited in various electrical and biological applications.

Mementoes were presented to the Chief Guest, Guest of Honour and Expert Speakers.Dr. Rajeev Sharma, Coordinator and Dr. Ashwani Sharma, Coordinator of the conference disclosed that 266 abstracts were received for poster and oral presentations. More than 150 National and International delegates attended the conference on the first day.

Dr. Kuldeep Kumar and Dr. Sanjay Kumar worked as the organizing secretaries of the conference. Dr. Ashwani Sharma presented the vote of thanks.
