National Education Policy Orientation and Sensitisation Programme Started at UGC-Malaviya Mission Teacher Training Centre Punjabi University

Eight-day long Orientation & Sensitization Programme on National Education Policy has been started today at the UGC-Malaviya Mission Teacher Training Centre, Punjabi University, Patiala.

The purpose of this orientation programme is to prepare teachers for academic excellence, effective professional performance and active engagement in the task of national reconstruction and to popularize National Education Policy. Prof. Raman Maini, Director, UGC-Malaviya Mission Teacher Training Centre, Punjabi University, Patiala told that as per the instructions of UGC-MHRD this programme has been scheduled through online modefrom 18-07-2024 to 29-07-2024.

He said, “As the purpose of any training programme can be best achieved by bringing resource persons of intellectual caliber to interact with the course participants. Luminary speakers from premier Indian institutes and organizations such as Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Indian Institute of Technology, Indian Institute of Education, Central Universities and other institutes will deliver expert talks during this program. He added that Prof. T V Kattimani, Vice Chancellor, Central Tribal University of Andhra Pradesh, who is the Member of Committee for the Draft National Education Policy-2020 and Member, National Steering Committee for the Development of National Curriculum Frameworks, has given his consent to deliver a talk on 29th July 2024.

Prof. Vipin Gupta from Jack H. Brown College of Business and Public Administration, California State University San Bernardino, USA was the chief guest of the inaugural session. Prof. Gupta said, “Traditional education systems often focus narrowly on academic subjects, neglecting broader aspects of human development and real-world application of knowledge. Holistic and multidisciplinary education represents a paradigm shift towards a more comprehensive approach that seeks to nurture students intellectually, socially, emotionally, and practically”.

Guest of honour Prof. Gurdip Singh Batra, Dean Academic Affairs, Jagat Guru Nanak Dev Punjab State Open University, Patiala said, “Education systems worldwide rely on four interconnected pillars: curriculum, development, pedagogy, and assessment.  The synergy between these pillars forms the foundation of quality education, fostering a supportive learning environment, where students can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally”.

During technical sessions, Prof. Santoshi Halder from University of Calcutta and Prof. Sukhpal Singh from Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad delivered talks on “Student Diversity and Inclusive Education“ and “Academic Leadership, Governance and Management“ respectively. Prof. Anup Thakur, Course Coordinator said, “The themes of the National Education Policy encompass broad objectives and principles that guide the development and implementation of educational strategies within the country. These themes are overarching goals of improving educational quality, accessibility, equity, and relevance in response to societal needs and global trends.

During this short term course, expert talks will focus on ten important themes. Dr. Karamjit Singh Dhaliwal Course Co-coordinator told, we are getting overwhelming response from the participants, 200 participants from various Indian universities and colleges are participating in this course. Many more participants were interested to join this course, but we were unable to accommodate them due to fixed number of seats.
