National symposium on chemical sciences at GNDU

Two day National symposium on advances in chemical sciences was inaugurated here today in Guru Nanak Dev University. This symposium, 7th in the series, was organized under the aegis of Centre for Advanced Studies in Chemistry Department sponsored by the University Grants Commission, New Delhi and Department of Science and Technology, New Delhi.  A large number of scientist from all over India are participating.

Prof. Kamaljit Singh, Dean Academic Affairs presided over the inaugural session. Prof. R. N. Mukherjee, from IIT Kanpur and former director IISER Kolkata delivered the keynote address and emphasized on the fact that the green chemistry aspect of the natural systems by following the mode of working of enzymatic reactions can be harnessed for developing new materials without making much use of the toxic and pollutant chemicals. Prof. Geeta Hundal, Head, Department of Chemistry welcome the delegates and highlighted the recent achievements of the department. Prof. Subodh Kumar, Coordinator presented the vote of thanks.

Prof. G. Narahari Sastry from CSIR-IICT Hyderabad, Prof. Samaresh Bhattacharya from Jadavpur University Kolkata, Prof. Vibha Tandon from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, Prof. Sanjay Mandal from IISER Mohali and Prof. Nand Kishore from IIT Bombay and other eminent scientists presented their research papers.

Prof. Sukhpreet Singh, Organising Secretary of the symposium said that over the two days of the symposium, as many as 14 scientists will deliver their talks and 75 research scholars will present their research work in the form of posters.
