Navy Chief Admiral Karambir Singh gave serious competition to NDA cadets

Indian Navy Chief Admiral Karambir Singh, who was the who is the Reviewing Officer for the ceremonial Passing Out Parade at the National Defence Academy (NDA) of its 140th course, gave a surprise to everyone when he decided to push the envelop a little further and he did push-ups with cadets.

Admiral Singh told cadets of Hunter Squadron to get down on their knees and perform push-ups.

Asked how many should they do, the 61-year-old Naval Chief said, “As many”. Soon everyone was on the ground, the Chief included.

Their caps and masks in place, they all went about the exercise with Admiral Singh leading the charge. Some young cadets could be seen doing the knuckle push ups.

It was a passing-out parade at the National Defence Academy (NDA) at Pune like every year, but Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Karambir Singh decided to push the envelop a little further when he did push-ups with cadets. “It was the Chief of the Naval staff (CNS) who initiated the push-ups with cadets and we all joined in,” said NDA Commandant Lt Gen Asit Mistry.

Later the The Official Twitter Page of the Public Relation Officer of Udhampur of Ministry of Defence shared pictures of the ‘once-in-a while’ captured event.  “ The Chief of Naval Staff, Admiral Karambir Singh doing Squadron Type Push Ups at NDA. Giving serious competition to the young cadets!  #FitnessGoals”

The passing out parade is celebrated as a coming of age ceremony for cadets. Cadets’ parents, or relatives, usually pip-in the ranks on their shoulders after which they officially become commissioned officers in the Indian Army.

Over 300 cadets who passed out, will become officers in the Indian Army, Air Force and Navy.
