Need for Collective Effort against Drugs and Crime – DIG Harcharan Singh Bhullar

“Project Sampark is an initiative to eliminate drugs; it is a sustained war against organized crime, street crime, and anti-social elements. Village panchayats and local residents are now extending their full support, enabling large-scale action against drug traffickers.”
These views were expressed today by DIG Rupnagar Range Harcharan Singh Bhullar while addressing a public event organized by the Rupnagar Police under the “Project Sampark” at Raj Mahal Palace, Morinda.
Addressing the gathering, DIG Bhullar said that Punjab Police is fully committed to eradicating drugs from the state, and the campaign launched by the Punjab Government to root out this menace requires active participation from the public — which is why we are all gathered here today.
He added that the core aim of Project Sampark is to strengthen trust and cooperation between the police and the people. The district police have been holding regular meetings with citizens under this initiative to address local issues effectively, and considerable success has been achieved in this direction.
DIG Bhullar urged social leaders and citizens to immediately report any information about drug traffickers and anti-social elements to the police, so that such elements can be effectively dealt with and curbed.
Locals present at the event expressed gratitude to the police administration, stating that Project Sampark and the Yudh Nashian Virudh campaign have significantly curbed the sale and consumption of narcotics. As a result, large number of addicted patients are now seeking treatment from de-addiction centers.
SSP Gurlneet Singh Khurana shared that under the Punjab Government’s Yudh Nashian Virudh campaign, Rupnagar District Police have so far registered 288 cases and arrested around 452 drug traffickers. The seizures include, 300 kg 18 g of poppy husk, 2 kg 839 g of poppy plants, 2 kg 379 g of opium, 694 g of charas, 15,455 intoxicating tablets/capsules, 372 drug injections, 1 kg 103 g of heroin, 4 kg 107 g of intoxicating powder including Rs 6,95,275 drug money.
Responding to queries from the public, SSP Khurana reaffirmed that the main target is to dismantle the supply chain of drug traffickers. He said that based on inputs received from arrested individuals, suspects in other districts have also been arrested, and cases registered accordingly.
He urged the public to report any drug trafficking or smuggling in their areas by contacting the Safe Punjab Anti-Drug Helpline at 97791-00200 (WhatsApp Chatbot) or the district police helpline numbers. He assured that the identity of the informant will remain strictly confidential.
On this occasion, SP Arvind Meena, SP Chand Singh, DSP Jatinderpal Singh, SHO Morinda City Harinder Singh, SHO Morinda Rural Kailash Bahadur, along with Jagdev Bhatoa, President, Nagar Council Morinda, Navdeep Singh Tony, Urban President, Aam Aadmi Party, Mehrban Singh, Social workers Surinder Singh, Harinder Singh, Davinder Singh Majhail, Sarpanches and a large number of panches and local residents were present.
