Punjab government has taken a new initiative with an aim to enhance competitiveness among government primary, middle, high and senior secondary schools in the state. For the first time, the director general school education, Punjab, has introduced a grading system for primary, middle, high, and senior secondary schools across the state, a step towards aligning government schools with private institutions that have already adopted grading systems.
The grading criteria have been set, and a letter has been issued to district education officials and school principals outlining the details. According to the order, the plan is to introduce this system to foster healthy competition among schools and improve overall academic performance. The initiative aims to recognise and encourage efforts by school principals and teachers in enhancing the overall development of students.
The implementation of the grading system is scheduled to commence after the conclusion of the holidays. The initiative by the Education Department is expected to initiate healthy competition among government schools, contributing to improved educational outcomes. Currently, there are around 1,740 high schools and 1,972 senior secondary schools in Punjab.
“School principals are urged to actively participate in this initiative by uploading essential data on the e-Punjab school portal within seven days. The e-Punjab school portal offers a link for the school grading process under the “other details” section. The data submission involves five key modules that is school results, infrastructure, co-curricular activities, SMC & public contribution and students’ attendance,” read the directive.
The schools in Punjab have been engaged in various extracurricular activities alongside regular educational programmes.
