NIS Celebrates its Foundation Day

The Sports Authority of India, Netaji Subhas National Institute of Sports, Patiala celebrated its Foundation Day on its campus, on Tuesday.
The Executive Director Dr.S.S.Roy, senior officers, National Coaches and outstanding sportspersons, garlanded the statue of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose installed in the central hall of the Institute library.
Padma Shree, Dronacharya and Arjuna Awardee, Bahadur Singh, Chief National Athletics Coach ; Shri P.Radhakrishan, Deputy Chief National Coach, Athletics ; M.S.DhilIon, Asia’s Best Athletics Coach ; and Athletes Tejinder Singh Toor, , Asian Games Gold Medalist ‘ M. Rani, Asian Champion, Silver Medalist, Shivpal Singh, Asian Games Silver Medalist ‘ Navjeet Kaur, Commonwealth Games Medalist ; CA Kuttapa, Dronacharya Awardee, Chief National Coach, Boxing ; and Boxers Deepak, Silver Medalist, Asian Championship, 2013; Shiva Thapa, Double Olympion, Asian Champion, 2013 and Arjuna Awardee ; Asish Kumar, Silver Medalist, Asian Championship ; Satish Kumar, Silver Medalist, Commonweath Games 2018 and Bronze Medalist, Asian Championship-2019 and Arjuna Awardee : K.Ravi Kumar, Weightlifter, Gold Medalist, Commonwealth Games, 2010, Silver Medalist CWG, 2014 and B.S.Mehdwan, National Weightlifting Coach, attended this function.
The present campus of the Institute was formally opened by the then Union Education Minister, K.L.Shrimali, on 7 May, 1961. The Institute was dedicated to the memory of Netaji in the year 1973.
The Institute conducts a number of education programmes on sports and sports sciences and conducts National Coaching Camps for training of elite sportspersons for international competitions.
