No Trust Motion against Rupnagar MC Chief passed

The specially convened meeting of the general house of the municipal council Rupnagar has unanimously passed the no confidence motion against Congress controlled municipal council president Sanjay Verma.
It may be mentioned that several municipal councilors including those from Congress and Aam Aadmi Party(AAP) had given notice seeking convening of meeting for moving no confidence motion against Sanjay Verma .
However ,Verma failed to convene meeting within stipulated fourteen days.Therefater,the councilors appointed another Congress Councillor Rajesh Kumar as convener ,who convened the meeting some days back,but it was postponed due to non availability of police force.
The meeting was again convened today ,in which total 17 municipal councilors including 15 from congress and two from Aam Aadmi Party participated.Convener Rajesh Kumar moved no confidence motion against Sanjay Verma,which was unanimously passed by all the present members with show of hands.
Sanjay Verma and Shiromani Akali Dal councilor Iqbal Kaur Makkar did not attend the meeting.
It is learnt that former chief minister Charanjit Singh Channi and Senior Congress leader Barinder Singh Dhillon tried to persuade Sanjay Verma to tender his resignation keeping in view the opposition being faced by him from the Congress councilors,but he refused to do so,which led to unanimous passage of the no confidence motion.
Former Municipal Council President and Congress Councillor Ashok Kumar Wahi is hot contender for the post of presidentship.
The Congress Councillors complained that the working of Municipal Council had come to standstill under the presidentship of Sanjay Verma,that is why they took such a step.
