Few years ago, to decongest city’s roads, the state government had conceptualized the idea to construct a ring road around the royal city Patiala. That ring road will prevent vehicles coming from other parts of Punjab and areas bordering Haryana from entering the city daily.

In the first phase, in 2017, the southern bypass connecting traffic from Chandigarh-Bathinda without entering Patiala was finally inaugurated and opened for common public. After that the work on remaining portion of the city ring road – Northern bypass started.

As per initial estimate, the proposed northern Patiala bypass is tipped to be of 27km involving ₹935 crore for land acquisition and construction.
