In Today’s digital world, the electronic waste is rapidly increasing in developing nations like India. There are no specific recycling policies to deal with e-waste.
The 12-year-old boy from Patiala studying in 7th standard in Kaintal School, Ryan has a low cost solution to deal with e-waste along with cheap computing solutions for people who cannot afford to buy new computers. He has made an All-in-one personal computer from broken and waste laptops; this computer is capable of handling regular computing tasks, along with access to Wi-Fi internet capabilities. It also has wireless keyboard and mouse and port to extend its screen on bigger monitor. It is equipped with Intel® Celeron processor, 2GB RAM and 256 GB SSD which makes it capable of handling computing tasks. He uses this PC to attend his online classes; edit music for his channel on YouTube.
He stated that “During lockdown, the classes were online and his old laptop was broken, he went to market along with his parents to buy a new laptop but laptop prices were too high. They came back empty handed. Then he decided that why to spend thousands on new laptop. Instead of this, he had to do something which would be affordable and not put extra burden on his parents in this Covid-19 period. Then he noticed that there are two laptops at home that were broken due to some issues then he got an idea of using those components and make an ALL in One PC for himself.” He said” He has used items available in home that was not of use any more to make its body and reworked on the circuits by studying them and also discussed with his father, this whole project just cost him Rs 900” This is how he has used e-waste and recycled it to make a new PC.
Nothing is impossible to achieve when you have confidence-Ryan. He has high ambitions about this project, if he gets support from any organization then he wish to manufacture more ALL in One PCs that can cost just 7000 to 8000 INR for customers and that will make PCs affordable for people who are not able to buy new PC or laptops due to financial issues. He thanked his father for his immense love and support.
