The Supreme Court today granted interim bail to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal till June 1 in connection with a money laundering case connected to the excise policy scam and on June 2, the Delhi CM will surrender.
The interim bail has been granted in order to enable Kejriwal to campaign for the Lok Sabha elections 2024.
AAP supermo is presently lodged in Tihar Jail after the Enforcement Directorate (ED) him on March 21. Currently, he is under judicial custody and the court has granted judicial custody till May 20,2024. He is refrained from carrying out any official responsibilities in the bail period.
The Supreme Court rejects the request of senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi, appearing for Arvind Kejriwal, to grant him interim bail until the declaration of results on June 4.
ED opposes interim bail to Arvind Kejriwal, AAP leader & Delhi minister Saurabh Bharadwaj says, “Government of India is adopting double standards. You are stopping interim bail for Arvind Kejriwal but stayed the conviction of former union minister Dilip Ray in a coal scam case. It can be said that ED is batting for BJP.”
As per available information, the Delhi Chief Minister is likely to walks out of jail on Friday evening and Kejriwal is likely to head to the AAP office at Deen Dayal Upadhyay Marg and will mark the start of his campaign with a speech. The polling has yet to take place in 18 of the 22 Lok Sabha constituencies that the AAP is contesting: four in Delhi, 13 in Punjab, and one in Haryana.

A party functionary said ” now the things will also change. Over the past month, there is immense sympathy among the people because of his arrest and now, the party leaders will roar as their commander is back in the field.”
While Delhi and Haryana vote on May 25 in the sixth phase, Punjab goes to polls on June 1, the day Kejriwal’s interim bail expires.
