Karan Randhawa Hon. NRI Coordinator, Australia and Member High Powered Investment Committee and delegation of NRIs met NRI Affairs Minister Pargat Singh at his office in the secretariat in Chandigarh and handed over a road map for NRI Affairs Department to implement in next 100 days.
Karan Randhawa in a press statement said that this proposal has been submitted after a thorough consultation and feedback received from NRIs around the world. The key issues in this proposal are implementation of new Act with time-bound Fast Track Judicial Tribunal or Courts, Helpdesk Office by NRI affairs department to facilitate NRIs and Foreign investments which will act as Single Window System to approve all Investment proposals with NRI affairs department to have authority to approve Investment proposals. The other key points of this proposal are Developing Sister State relations with Foreign Countries to boost economic activities, Issuing NRI Investments bonds for Infrastructure projects and setting up Food Processing Industry under the PPP model with NRIs.
Karan Randhawa said to safeguard NRIs property it is key to have time-bound Fast Track courts. The present judicial system is a lengthy process which makes it hard for NRIs to protect their properties. Illegal possession of NRIs properties is a common problem and illegal occupants find loopholes in the present judicial system to delay the court proceedings to discourage NRIs to fight through legal procedures. Being a member of the High Investment Committee we have few Investments proposals but lack of interest from various departments to facilitate these talks had discouraged those investors to put forward those proposals. Red-Tapism persists in almost all departments and lack of coordination among departments makes it hard to create an investor-friendly environment.
NRIs urged Minister to implement 6 Points Agenda in next 100 days. No department is willing to take innovative ideas from NRIs to seek their contribution to the development of the state. If the Government approves the NRI affairs department to be a single contact point to facilitate NRIs and Foreign Investments it may help overcome these problems. Punjab needs to develop the Agribusiness industry in the state with the help of NRIs for youth employment and growth.
