NRSM-2026: RTO Patiala Organises Awareness Drive and Safe Junction Campaign

As part of the ongoing National Road Safety Mission–2026 (NRSM-2026), the Regional Transport Office, Patiala, in collaboration with Muskaan Foundation for Road Safety, organised two major road-safety initiatives here today with the objective of promoting responsible road behaviour and strengthening community participation in road safety.
A Road Safety Awareness and First Responder Training Programme was organised for Civil Engineering students of Thapar Institute of Engineering & Technology, Patiala. Addressing the students, RTO Patiala Babandeep Singh Walia sensitised them about the evolving road safety landscape and emphasised the crucial role of engineering, innovation and education in building safer road infrastructure. He encouraged students to actively engage with government institutions and contribute as future planners and designers of safe and sustainable transport systems. The programme also focused on basic first-responder skills, highlighting the importance of timely assistance in reducing fatalities during road accidents.
In another initiative, a “Safe Junction Drive” on-road awareness campaign was conducted at Leela Bhawan Chowk, one of the busiest traffic intersections in the city. The drive focused on ensuring strict compliance with traffic rules, including red-light discipline, use of zebra crossings and safeguarding pedestrian right of way.
DSP Traffic Puneet Singh Chahal, while interacting with commuters, stressed the importance of helmet usage and safe driving practices. On the occasion, 200 helmets were distributed to two-wheeler riders as a step towards encouraging protective gear and reducing head-injury related fatalities.
The RTO Patiala Babbandeep Singh Walia stated that such awareness drives will continue across the district as part of NRSM-2026 to inculcate a culture of road safety and minimise road accidents through education, enforcement and community participation.
