NSNIS Patiala remembers its Hero,Major Dhyan Chand, on National Sports Day

Every year on August 29, India celebrates National fondly remembered as the “Wizard of Hockey.” At NIS Patiala, the occasion was marked with great enthusiasm and respect. Vineet Kumar, Senior Executive Director, paid tribute to Major Dhyan Chand and delivered an inspiring speech highlighting his life, achievements, and invaluable contribution to Indian sports.
It was also remembered with pride that after his illustrious playing career, Major Dhyan Chand served as a coach at the prestigious National Institute of Sports, Patiala.
Carrying forward the spirit of the national campaign “Har Gali, Har Maidan, Khele Sara Hindustan” (Every street, every playground, let the whole of India play), the institute organized a series of events to celebrate the occasion. The activities included a yoga demonstration, spoon race, volleyball, cricket match, tug of war, and a hockey match.
All staff members, diploma trainees, and retired officers aged 75 years and above actively participated, displaying remarkable enthusiasm, felicitated with gold, silver, and bronze medals.
The celebrations commenced on August 29, 2025, and will conclude with a closing ceremony on August 31, 2025.
