Number ‘26’ significant in the life of Dr Manmohan Singh

Numeric number 26 played an important role in the life of legendary former Prime Minister of India Dr Manmohan Singh. His life’s key happenings revolve around Number 26. His life starts on 26 and ended on 26 number.

 

He was born on September 26, 1932 in a village in the Punjab province of undivided India. Singh lost his mother at a very young age and was then raised by his grandmother.

 

His eternal journey ended on December 26, 2024. He was admitted to AIIMS in Delhi late in the evening after his health deteriorated, where doctors declared him dead. He was 92 years old and was ill for a long time.

 

His 10 year illustrious term of prime ministership ended on May 26, 2014 (as per PM India official Portal). He served as India’s 13th and 14th Prime Minister. He was the first prime minister since Jawaharlal Nehru to be re-elected after completing a full five-year term. Singh was also the first and only Sikh to hold the office and the only prime minister of India to never win a direct popular election.

He was honoured with many awards but the most prestigious was Padma Vibhushan. He was awarded with India’s second highest civilian award Padma Vibhushan by the President of India on January 26, 1987.

He remained active in his academic activities, teachings before joining any post of Government of India. Again for long 26 years he had remained on many key posts before joining active politics and becoming Finance Minister of India. In those 26 long years he served as Chairman, University Grants Commission, Advisor to Prime Minister of India on Economic Affairs, Dy. Chairman, Planning Commission of India, Governor, Reserve Bank of India, Secretary, Ministry of Finance Dept. of Economic Affairs, Member [Finance], Atomic Energy Commission, Member [Finance], Space Commission etc amongst other.

Last but not the least, as per his CV* he was awarded with prestigious 26 Prizes, Awards and Recipient of Honorary D. Litt Degree (same hony degree awarded by various institutes)
