The Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law, Punjab, is organising a Two-Day National Conference on “Seventy-Five Years of the Supreme Court of India” on April 26-27, 2025, commemorating the historic milestone of the apex court’s establishment in 1950. Organised in conjunction with World Intellectual Property Day, the event brings together a wide spectrum of scholars, jurists, practitioners, and students to reflect on the Supreme Court’s enduring legacy and its evolving role as the guardian of constitutional values. The seminar underscores the increasing relevance of The Supreme Court of India as a leader of Global South. The objective is to trace its trajectory from early decades of Independence to contemporary times as the judgments of The Supreme Court are being referred by Judiciary, not only of the Global South but also advanced nations. The two day conference will take a closer look on the role of The Supreme Court of India as an upholder and promoter of Human Rights.

The University will be deeply honoured by the presence of esteemed members of the Indian judiciary gracing this momentous occasion with their benign presence. The conference will be graced by the auspicious presence of Justice Pankaj Mithal and Justice Augustine George Masih, Judges, The Supreme Court of India, whose reflections will add immense value to the academic and constitutional spirit of the event. Justice Deepak Sibal, Judge, Punjab and Haryana High Court, Justice Sudhir Singh, Judge, Punjab and Haryana High Court, and Justice Lisa Gill, Judge, Punjab and Haryana High Court, Chandigarh will also grace the occasion with their insightful addresses.

The conference shall witness enthusiastic participation and insightful deliberations across a range of themes including Intellectual Property Rights, Constitutional Interpretation, Digital Justice, Gender Rights, Restorative Justice, Algorithmic Transparency, and Evolving Jurisprudence in consumer and competition laws. Discussions will explore the Supreme Court’s pivotal interventions in safeguarding the rights of vulnerable groups including Women, Children, LGBTQIA+ persons, Workers, and Marginalised Communities.
