The government of India has declared a one-day state mourning on May 21,2024 as a mark of respect to Islamic Republic of Iran President Seyyed Ebrahim Raisi and foreign minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian who died in a helicopter crash.

On the day of mourning” the National Flag will be flown at half mast throughout India on all buildings where the National Flag is flown regularly and there will be no official entertainment on the day.

The 63-year-old Raisi and his entourage were heading to the northwestern city of Tabriz after returning from a visit to a locality close to its borders with Armenia and Azerbaijan on Sunday when their helicopter crashed in northwestern Iran. Raisi was returning to Tehran from an event with Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev, media reports said. Raisi, Abdollahian and a number of other officials onboard the chopper were found dead Monday at the site of the helicopter crash.
