One inquiry completed, one withdrawn against accused cops in Col Bath assault case

Patiala police has completed the departmental inquiry against the accused cops in Col. Pushpinder Singh Bath’s assault case and the state government has withdrawn the magisterial probe in the same case.

Confirming the same, the investigating officer, Swaranjit Kaur, superintendent of police (SP), Punjab bureau of investigation (PBI) , Patiala has said “I had submitted the inquiry report to the senior superintendent of police (SSP), Patiala. I just want to say this, nothing more than this.”

After Col. Pushpinder Singh Bath’s assault incident, than SSP Patiala Nanak Singh had marked a departmental inquiry against the accused Patiala police personnel’s to SP (Headquarter) Harwant Kaur and instructed her to submit the report within 45 days. During investigation the inquiry officers, SP (H) was changed as she was shifted out of Patiala district by the state government.

After her transfer from Patiala district, the inquiry officer is also changed but the same was not disclosed to anyone, not even to the aggrieved Col. Bath’s family.

Today, when contacted the SP (H) Patiala, Vaibhav Chaudhary, he rudely responded when asked about the status of the report. He said “who told you I am doing the inquiry or the inquiry report is with me. When said the SSP had marked the departmental inquiry to SP (H) and presently you hold the position, he said “first check your information. I am not doing any inquiry “

Later when checked, it was revealed that the inquiry was marked to SP, PBI Swaranjit Kaur, after the transfer of Harwant kaur as SP (H) on April 6,2025. The change of IO was not even intimated to the Bath family, as confirmed by Mrs Bath.

Mrs Bath said, “We had met the SSP Varun Sharma also. But no one is giving us the update. In coming days we will hold a press conference and give you all the information, what they are doing..”

On the other hand the state government has withdrawn the magisterial probe against accused cops in Col. Pushpinder Singh Bath’s assault case. Confirming the same, the investigation officer Paramavir Singh, IAS said “ the state government had taken the decision to withdraw the inquiry after the Punjab and Haryana High Court handed over the investigation to the Chandigarh police.”

The case pertains to an alleged assault on Colonel Bath and his son outside an eatery in Patiala on March 13-14 night over a parking dispute.
