One unit of Punjab’s largest thermal plant shuts down; power crises may loom over Punjab

With the rise in mercury, power demand, one unit of 660 MW of Talwandi Sabo Power Limited (TSPL) Thermal plant shuts down.

Punjab’s private thermal plant TSPL has 3 units of 660 MW each. At present only two units of 660 MW are working and one unit of 660 MW is not in operational mode.

The present time (at 11:29 pm) power demand is 10650 MW.

At present the private plants are generating 2497 MW (at 11:29 pm). Out of this 2497, two units of Nabha Power Limited are generating 1337 MW, whereas two working units of TSPL are generating 1161 MW.  Govt owned thermal plant are generating 1703.

The reason behind the shut down of one unit of TSPL is not immediately known.

As per information the power plant is operated by TSPL, a subsidiary of Vedanta. The Engineering, procurement and construction contract is given to SEPCO1 of People’s Republic of China. TSPL is using China made Dongfang Steam turbine in three units, Steam generators of Harbin Boiler Co.Ltd. China. It’s the first Supercritical unit and one of the largest Greenfield power project in the State of Punjab
